The Community
The City of Kelso is located on I-5 approx. 35 miles north of Vancouver, Washington. Kelso’s population is approx. 12,000 but with Longview as our neighboring city, we comprise a combined community of just under 50,000.
The City of Kelso has a council-manager form of government. The Police Department enjoys strong support from the council, the manager, and the community.
“Kelso offers a fast-paced, positive policing experience without many of the negatives of living and working in a large urban environment. We are committed to doing the right thing, the right way, while treating people with dignity and respect. We have several officers who have served Kelso for over twenty years. Most officers leave us only upon retirement. Give our department a call and ask to speak to any officer about the experience of being a Kelso Police officer.”
Chief Wayne L. Nelson
