Project Advisory Committee for City of Kelso Development Code Update

The City of Kelso is seeking volunteers from the community to serve on a Project Advisory Committee for their upcoming Code Update. 

Volunteers should have experience working in building, development or real estate industry. Architects, planners, developers, builders and real estate agents are highly desired.
The Project Advisory Committee will give input about local development conditions, the Kelso community, project objectives and potential issues for users.
Members would be expected to attend up to 3 meetings and review draft materials.

The Lodging Tax Committee will be meeting at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Council Chambers at 203 S. Pacific Ave to discuss the applications received for allocation of 2023 Lodging Tax Funds.

PUBLIC NOTICE

Utility Construction and Paving on
N. Pacific, 4th Av, Oak St, and 5th Av

Construction to replace old sewer lines, water lines, and storm drains, and to repave the N. Pacific from Allen to Cowlitz Way, 4th and 5th from Oak to Allen, and Oak from 4th to 5th will begin in mid-February 2022 and continue into June or July, depending on weather. In addition to the paving and utility work, sidewalk access ramps will be replaced at most of the corners to bring them into compliance with the federal “Americans With Disabilities Act” requirements.

During construction, driveways, travel lanes and parking on these streets will be closed at times, and traffic will be shifted around the construction with traffic cones and flaggers, or will be detoured.

Funding for the project is provided by the City, and by a grant from the Transportation Improvement Board.

The City of Kelso is now accepting applications from Kelso residents that reside within the city limits of Kelso to fill a vacancy on the city council. 

The timeline for filling the vacancy is as follows:

January 21, 2022:  Applications are due to city staff not later than 5:00 p.m.
February 1, 2022: Special meeting at 4:30 p.m. to conduct candidate interviews followed by executive session, council vote, and swearing in of new councilmember.

A councilmember application and an application to be considering for any board, committee, commission must be filled out and submitted to City Manager Andrew Hamilton not later than January 21st @ 5:00 p.m.

Fireworks Stand Permit Applications

The City of Kelso is accepting applications for firework stand permits.

Due to the size of population, the City of Kelso is limited to allow for three fireworks stands each year.  Permits may be granted, or denied, based upon the City Manager’s assessment of the applicant’s experience and demonstrated record together with such other factors as are determined to be in the best interest of and benefit to the community.  All applications to operate fireworks stands shall be made no later than May 2, 2022.
